The band Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was a failure in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hit songs including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour helped them become a household name all over the world.
After a gap of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. It marks a step away from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and features some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.

In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour around the world. After a few months in Europe they come to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
