The band Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. Toto's third release, Turn Back, was a failure in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hit songs including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour helped them become a household name all over the world.

The album features a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa on their recent tour.
